recruiter communication

Why consistent communication with your recruiter while on assignment is important

By Jacob Cassinelli

A common misconception of a recruiter’s role is that the relationship ends once a candidate has been placed. While it is common for people to be placed in a role and never speak to their recruiter again, at Orbis Clinical we’ve only just begun! We pride ourselves on continuing the relationships with each contractor to make sure the placement is beneficial for them as well as their new employer.

Support beyond the job offer

The goal of my first interaction with a potential contractor is to build a lasting relationship and become a resource to them throughout their career journey. After helping them navigate interviews and offer stages, the candidate then goes on to begin their role with their new employer. At the new company, there is an HR department that will handle onboarding and any action items for the contractor, but I also take it upon myself to act as a resource during the onboarding process and let the contractor know what will be expected of them. The process can be strenuous at times so I make myself available for any questions or concerns from my contractors.

Once the contractor settles in to their new role, we will do weekly or bi-weekly check in calls just to touch base. Again, this is a great time for consultants to share any concerns or issues they may have. Alternatively, it allows me to share feedback the client (their employer) has given on how they are doing in the role.

On-demand answers to your questions

Orbis Clinical recruiters are a great resource to their contractors because we are specific, personalized and dialed into the work our contractors are doing. There is also the added benefit of the whole team at Orbis; if I don’t have an answer for a specific contractor question, I know someone who does! We do our absolute best to provide our contractors with answers as soon as possible and hold ourselves accountable for keeping response times low. We have a team that has seen and heard it all, so there are very few questions that can stump us!

Your wins get the celebration they deserve

Contractors who have had a great experience with Orbis Clinical in the past are eager to work with us again, as well as refer other life science professionals. We use these referrals as a way to touch base with our contractors, and it is a great way for them to earn extra money, as well as donate to charities they believe in. What really excites us is the fact that people want to grow with our company!

We become part of that journey as they climb their career ladder, and it’s as exciting to us as it is to them. Many contract roles that we work with lend themselves to extension or conversion to full-time roles with amazing life science companies. We make sure to listen to what our contractors have to say, and make the assignment work for them in order to succeed.

Your career cheerleader

My role as a recruiter is to fill roles with qualified candidates, act as a confidant and career coach, provide support, find answers, follow up with referrals and so much more. Consultants continue to work with Orbis Clinical because of the amazing relationships their recruiters build with them. For us, each consultant is an individual we’re helping to grow and guide on their career journey, NOT a dollar sign.
