Job Summary:
The RNA Research group is seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced scientist to join the dynamic and fast-paced discovery chemistry team located in Bedford, MA. The successful candidate will work on our PMO & siRNA oligonucleotide platform and discovery research on improved delivery of oligonucleotides as well as manage collaborations and CROs as needed. This position will work closely with Discovery Biology, Translational Sciences, Research Operations, Business Development and Legal teams to implement new drug discovery programs and advance next generation of RNA therapeutics.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Perform routine laboratory functions and maintain, calibrate, and set up laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Perform synthesis of chemically modified oligonucleotides and peptides using automated instruments. Experience with MerMade/AKTA oligonucleotide synthesizers, and Liberty Blue/Aaptec peptide synthesizers desirable.
- Perform multi-step small molecule reactions to generate ligands for downstream bioconjugation projects.
- Work closely with senior scientists to design and conduct novel oligonucleotide conjugates synthesis, purification, and characterization; Apply state-of-the-art delivery methods to achieve in vivo proof of concept; Develop efficient and scalable synthetic methods and routes.
- Data management and documentation: Maintain accurate, organized experimental records and reagent inventories in electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) on a regular basis.
- Act as member of a multidisciplinary research team, assisting with development of project strategy, analysis and communication of complex data.
Required Education and Skills:
- B.S./M.S. in chemistry or related fields with 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in an industrial setting.
- Experience in organic chemistry and multi-step organic synthesis
- Experienced in using electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) for data documentation and management.
- Solid written and oral communication skills, enthusiasm, integrity, self-motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to high laboratory and scientific standards and the ability to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly laboratory work environment.
Desired Education and Skills:
- Hands-on experience with manual and automated systems for solid-phase synthesis of peptides and nucleic acids is desirable for this role.
- Experience with using analytical techniques/instrumentation for peptides and/or oligonucleotides purification and characterization such as Reverse Phase, Ion exchange chromatography (HPLC/UPLC), ESI-MS and MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) is a plus.
Compensation Details:

- The Pay Range for this position is $25.80 – $37.93 per hour, can vary depending on employment status.
